The Ukrainian man’s shirt

The Ukrainian rushnichok, or embroidered shirt identifies its wearer’s home. Each region has its own embroidery patterns.

Contemporary rushnichok are made of modern synthetic fabrics with machine embroidery. The traditional embroidery patterns remain the same. They can be purchased in specialty stores.
Traditional shirts were cut from rectangles of cloth, usually linen. They featured embroidery on the collar cuffs, an a front rectangular placket that opened on the left.
Shirts were commonly worn over the pants with a sash measuring 3.5 yards wrapping around the waist.
